Choosing and booking
Whisky distilleries cluster in Scotland: Speyside, Islay, Skye and the Highlands. Gin distilleries are spread across the UK, and many run make-your-own-gin sessions as well as tours. The distillery map shows which are close enough to combine in a day. Without a car, the whisky day tours from Edinburgh are the easiest way to reach the Highland and Lowland distilleries.
Book on the distillery's own website. Small distilleries sell out in summer, and most do not let under-18s taste; some do not allow children on tours at all. If you are driving, ask for a driver's dram to take away.
