Why visit

  • The only Scottish distillery still malting some of its own barley on-site — you can see and smell the peat fires
  • The £20 Experience Tour is superb value
  • The famous 'Friends of Laphroaig' community (members get a square foot of Islay)
  • On the great Laphroaig–Lagavulin–Ardbeg coast walk

Worth knowing

  • Intensely peated, divisive style — best for those who already enjoy peat
  • Under-18s aren't permitted on tasting experiences; Islay is remote
