Is it worth visiting?

Suits visitors who already like heavily peated whisky and want to see malting floors and a peat kiln at a working distillery. £22 for 90 minutes with a core-range tasting is standard value for Islay; the £90 Grain to Glass adds a cask tasting and a 100ml bottle you fill yourself. Skip it if you do not enjoy peat. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, speak to the distillery before booking because of the stairs. Lagavulin and Ardbeg are on the same road, so you can visit all three in a day.

Opening: March–October daily 09:45–17:00. November daily 09:45–16:30; December Monday–Friday 09:45–16:30. Check the official site for January and February.
Getting there: About a mile east of Port Ellen: a 15–20 minute walk from the village, and on the coast road to Lagavulin and Ardbeg. Port Ellen ferry terminal is closed from June 2026 until 2029, so CalMac ferries from Kennacraig use Port Askaig.
