The Classic Tour lasts 90 minutes and the Distillery Exclusive Experience two hours.

Can you visit Lagavulin without a tour?

There is a bar on site, the Malt Mill Bar, which is reached by steps. Tours and tastings are paid and booked separately.

From £22 for the Classic Tour and £130 for the Distillery Exclusive Experience, up to £350 for the seven-hour North to South day with Caol Ila.

Is it worth visiting?

Suits visitors who like Lagavulin 16 or peated whisky generally, and anyone visiting the three south-coast distilleries (Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg) in one day. £22 for 90 minutes with a three-dram tutored tasting is standard value for Islay. Skip the Classic Tour if anyone in your group has restricted mobility or is under 8; ask the distillery about an adapted tasting instead.

Planning the visit

Booking: Book at malts.com; essential during Fèis Ìle (late May). Some Islay tours sold through Viator and GetYourGuide also include it.
Opening: March–October daily 10:00–17:00; reduced Monday–Saturday hours in winter. Fèis Ìle events (late May) sell out quickly.
Getting there: Two miles east of Port Ellen, with a foot and cycle path and a Monday–Saturday bus. Port Ellen ferry terminal is closed from June 2026 until 2029, so CalMac ferries from Kennacraig use Port Askaig; allow for the drive south.
